Curriculum Description

 Program Overview 

The Diploma in Anaesthesiology (DA) is a two-academic-year postgraduate program under BMU. It is designed to ensure uniform, high-quality anaesthesiology training across Bangladesh. 


The curriculum includes core rotations in Anaesthesia for General Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, ICU supplemented by blocks in subspecialties like Orthopaedic Surgery, Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, Neurosurgery, Urology, Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine. Degree awarded after structured training and defined evaluation. 


 With revised curriculum, BMU is conduction course from 2011 & currently 15th batch with 23 students are training in BMU. This course is also offered under supervision of BMU in many Affiliated Institutions with commencement date of 1st July each year after admission test.

  • Specialist Development: To produce experts in Anaesthesia, ICU, and Pain Medicine. 
  • Clinical Competence: To ensure safe and effective clinical practice in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care & Pain Medicine.

  • Ethical Practice: To foster accountability and respect in professional interactions.

Specific Objectives (Training Years) 

  • Build a strong foundation in: Clinical Anaesthesia, Intensive Care, and Pain Medicine. 
  • Ensure safe anaesthesia: Competently manage peri-operative care for routine and emergency cases. 
  • Develop core knowledge of: Basic sciences, clinical measurement, and pharmacology. 
  • Gain expertise in: Acute and chronic pain management and Basic Life Support & Advanced Life Support (BLS/ALS). 
  • Promote team-based practice: Collaborate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff. 
  • Encourage evidence-based practice: Use scientific principles for clinical decision-making. 
  • Foster self-directed learning: Develop habits for lifelong education and professional growth
